What's the Best Things for ur Kid?

Looking at my last post dates, it has been almost one year I've not kept up my writting in GAS Station. Today, I would like to share with you what is the best thing you can give to your kids after I have become a father myself.

Ok. sometimes ago, I sat down with a couple of fathers at the conventional coffee shop in Sungai Way after we had done a simple charity at the old folks home nearby. So, one father, David, just raised up one question to us, "What is the best thing you can give to your children nowadays?" Any wild guess?

He pointed out two things which I absolutely agreed with - Knowledge and .......... Network. As everyone knows that knowledge is the highest form of leverage. But, Network, my brothers and sisters, is the ignition that brings you where you want to be and who you want to be. Furthermore, building a network is not the privilege for the adults or business people, it shall be nurtured since young. How young? As young as possible.

This has also got me to recall my old time in university. I went to a pretty reputable university in Vancouver, Canada and so happened hung out with a rich kid at that time. He told me that most of the rich parents send their kids to the top universities is not really for the education pursuit but for building a new stream of the network with the other rich kids. They are not required to excel in their education but they must make lots and lots of friends throughout their university years. When they graduated, the most valuable asset they brought back was the Network they've built, and who needs the business degree, while they have their own top business coach (their parents) who guide them how to do big business.

One classic example, Micheal Oher, also known as Big Mike who grew up in the slum, homeless, forced to leave his mother by the state. Worst still, he didn't even know who his father was. Until he has met Leigh Ann Touhy, one of the richest and powerful lady in town, who adopted him, nurtured him, got him to the high school football team through her network & connection, and his talent was spotted one day and wa-lah, Micheal has now become the best defend in NFL. What's the moral of the story? You've gotta have the network or connection to get your there.

You might not be the smartest one, or the most hard working one, the reality is, the network gets you everywhere. So, if you think why you do not get to where you want to be, you might want to start looking into your knowledge and your network.
